A report by agrar-PR reveals a significant decline in the pig population in Saxony, with a decrease of 51,500 pigs or 7.8 percent as of November 3, 2021, compared to the previous year. The majority of these farms were located in the districts of Central Saxony, North Saxony, and Meißen. The trend of declining sheep populations in Saxony also continued, with a decrease of 1,200 sheep or 1.8 percent, making it the lowest sheep population since the survey began. The statistical office of the Free State of Saxony conducted the livestock survey, focusing on farms with 50 or more pigs or ten or more breeding sows, and farms with 20 or more sheep.
