The Indonesian government is taking steps to boost nutmeg production by establishing seed gardens, as the country's nutmeg area spans 253,322 hectares with a production of 38,150 tons and a productivity of 446 kg/ha. Since 2016, seed gardens have been established in various regions to improve nutmeg quality and production. An assessment of local superior source seed gardens, including those in Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, was conducted in March 2022 to evaluate potential local superior seeds for development. This initiative aims to address the challenges faced by smallholder nutmeg farmers, who account for 98% of the sector, by providing superior seeds and advising on best practices to increase yield and quality.
