Six Chinese fishing vessels caught engaging in illegal fishing in the EEZ were seized.

The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, in collaboration with the Korea Coast Guard, seized six Chinese fishing vessels that were illegally operating in South Korea's exclusive economic zone (EEZ). The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries announced that from December 2 to 7, a joint inspection was conducted, and the vessels were fined 240 million won for underreporting their catch and for using illegal fishing gear. Additionally, boarding inspections were carried out on 241 Chinese fishing vessels to ensure that Chinese fishermen comply with fishing regulations in South Korean waters. This joint inspection was conducted in anticipation that unlicensed fishing vessels operating in specific areas of the West Sea would descend into the Mokpo-Jeju waters in December, which are key fishing grounds for primary fish species such as mackerel and flatfish.
