Russia has a scarcity of quality snails despite having around 200 snail farms, with Morocco, Ukraine, and Tunisia being the primary producers accounting for 85%, 6%, and 5% of the global production of approximately 20.8 thousand tons in 2022, respectively. France and Belarus are the main suppliers of canned and fresh snails to Russia. There is potential for domestic farmers to grow snails for cosmetics, restaurants, and festivals, but the market is not yet established. Issues such as lack of production regulation, uncontrolled removal of snails from the environment, and irregularities in pricing and product quality persist.
