Between January and May 2024, Peru's alcoholic beverage sector saw a slight growth of 0.8%, with two sectors, distillation, rectification and mixing of beverages, and production of malted and malt beverages, leading the charge with an increase of 8.2% and 1.6% respectively. This growth is largely due to the rising global popularity of Peruvian rum, which has become the country's third most exported alcoholic beverage. The main markets for Peruvian rum are Colombia, the Netherlands, Ecuador, the United States, and Germany. Domestic sales of rum in Peru reach approximately 1.5 million nine-liter cases per year, with over 70% of these sales being locally produced. Consumption patterns have also shifted towards more varied flavors, particularly in the 'ready to drink' category and 'tiki cocktails', reflecting changing consumer preferences.
