Snow provides ideal conditions for wheat in Serbia

The snow that covered grain crops this winter has provided many benefits for farmers in Serbia, the public broadcaster Radio and Television Vojvodina reported. The snow cover protects plants from diseases that threaten them during the winter period, but also from low temperatures, reducing the risk of frost, long-time farmers explain. In most parts of Srem County in Vojvodina, wheat is now in the sprouting phase, and the precipitation has provided significant amounts of snow, which will contribute to improving soil moisture and accelerating plant development after it melts.
