Argentina: So far in 2023, 33 million fewer tons of grains, vegetable oils and by-products have been shipped

The drought that impacted Argentina during the current campaign reduced grain production by 37% compared to the previous campaign, bringing it to a total of 83.8 Mt, according to its own estimates. As a consequence, taking into account that most of the harvest in our country is destined for export, it is not surprising that agroindustrial shipments have experienced a sharp drop in year-on-year comparison. During the first nine months of 2023, Argentina shipped a total of 44.6 Mt of grains, byproducts and oils, which represents a 41% decrease in agroindustrial shipments compared to the same period of the previous year. This collapse is mainly explained by a reduction in the shipment of grains: from January to September, 26.2 Mt were shipped, a decrease of 47% compared to the same period in 2022.
