South Africa's North West Agriculture and Rural Development (NWDARD) Minister, Desbo Mohono, has urged local farmers and manufacturers to apply for hemp permits, following a 2019 Cabinet decision to industrialize and commercialize Cannabis. This move aims to boost economic growth, create jobs, and alleviate poverty. Despite the process for the Cannabis Masterplan being ongoing, Mohono emphasized that hemp industrialization is a key step towards establishing the country's Cannabis industry. The Plant Improvement Act of 1976 provides the legal framework for hemp cultivation, distribution, and sale. Interested parties can find the application process and forms on the National Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development's website.
