South Africa's beef exports experienced a 25% increase in value and volume for the January-September 2024 period compared to the same period in 2023, reaching US$136 million. The main markets include China, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and other Middle Eastern and African countries. This growth comes despite challenges posed by animal diseases such as foot-and-mouth, bird flu, and African swine fever, which have led to a decrease in livestock exports. The government and industry have worked to strengthen biosecurity measures, with signs of effectiveness noted by October 2024.
