The Ministry of Food and Drug Administration of Korea has updated the country's food standards and specifications to make them more flexible and scientifically managed. The updates, outlined in the third basic plan (2025-2029), aim to regulate safety in the food industry, respond proactively to future needs, shift to a data- and science-centered management system, and strengthen international cooperation. The plan includes independent product development, safety management standards for new foods and technologies, harmful substance monitoring, digital technology application in food safety, and cooperation with international organizations to understand foreign food standard specifications. This move is expected to enhance food safety, support the growth of the food industry, and ensure compliance with international standards for companies producing and exporting processed foods to South Korea.
