Health and animal production authorities have confirmed the presence of the H5N1 subtype of the highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus in a turkey fattening farm located 100 meters from a previously confirmed farm on July 18 in Ahillones (Badajoz). In this now affected farm, the preventive culling of nearly 5,000 turkeys had been carried out following the case from last week, according to the update report from the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA), consulted by Efeagro. Last week's outbreak constitutes the first case in a farm in Spain in almost two and a half years. The Central Veterinary Laboratory (LCV) in Algete (Madrid) was responsible for confirming the presence of the virus in samples received from the farm.
