The Spanish Serrano Ham Consortium has reported a notable increase in the export of Spanish cured hams and shoulders in the first nine months of 2022, with a total of 40,595.68 tons, marking a 10.78% increase compared to the previous year. The export value reached €420,408,798.48, showing a 15.47% rise, led by the European Union, which accounted for 69.6% of the total exports. France and Germany were the top importers within the EU. Outside the EU, countries like Austria, Italy, Portugal, as well as Japan, China, and Mexico, experienced the highest growth in export value. Furthermore, a shift towards preferring boneless ham was observed, with a 12.09% increase in volume and a 16.13% rise in value, finding favor in the UK and China.
