Spanish households have purchased 25.3% more olive oil in the last rolling year (December 2024-November 2025) with 321.9 million liters acquired; an amount for which they spent 1.6 billion euros, a -22.7% compared to the previous rolling year, which reveals its significant price reduction. These are data collected by the latest food consumption panel in households published by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and that, with one month left to complete, already gives an idea of how families consumed throughout 2025. The evolution of olive oil proceeds in the opposite direction to that of its main competitor, sunflower oil, because families bought 10.2% less in that rolling year (146.9 million liters) but spent 2.4% more; that is, they spent more to buy less sunflower oil, which reveals that this product has become more expensive in the last 12 months.
