Spanish households increased their food purchases by 8.6% in November 2020 compared to the same month in 2019, leading to a 9.6% increase in total expenditure. This surge was largely due to a higher demand for meat, fish, milk, eggs, potatoes, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, oil, wine, and other beverages. The average price of food also rose by 0.9%. Over the mobile year (December 2019 to November 2020), food purchases surged by 10%, and expenditures by 13.0%, with significant increases in the demand for various food items and beverages, including meat, fish, milk and dairy products, sugar, legumes, potatoes, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, oil, wine, and derivatives, beer, ciders, and spirits.
