SPOKANE — The Spokane Conservation District is developing a documentary detailing the history of the Hangman Creek watershed. Longtime Spokane filmmaker Ira Gardner is directing and producing the documentary, “Finding Our Way: The Hangman Creek Watershed,” slated for a February 2028 release . A former district worker initially interviewed longtime landowners and Tribal leaders as they reached their end of life. One of the subjects died a month after being interviewed. The interviews sat at the conservation district for years, said Eric Allen, habitat restoration specialist. The district decided a documentary would be a good way to tell the history of the watershed, and restoration efforts, from a multitude of perspectives. “There’s a big story here to tell,” Allen said. They approached Gardner, who “had the ability to capture peoples’ stories without driving the audience towards a conclusion,” which was critical, Allen said. “The first thing I asked was, ‘Are you looking for a ...
