In 2020, despite the challenges of the coronavirus pandemic, Norway's seafood exports reached a value of NOK 105.7 billion, marking the second-highest value ever. The industry adapted to the changes by shifting their focus to retail and online sales channels. The exports saw a minor increase in volume but a slight decrease in value compared to the previous record year. The second-highest export value for salmon, valued at NOK 70.1 billion, was achieved, along with a notable increase in the value of trout and herring exports. However, there was a decline in the export value of saithe, haddock, and clipfish, primarily due to reduced demand and market access issues. The export volume to the EU, Asia, and Eastern Europe varied, with Poland being the largest market. The overall export volume increased by 2%, while the value fell by 1% compared to the previous year, reflecting the challenges faced by the industry amidst the pandemic.
