The 27th Session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) concluded with a call for urgent measures to rebuild the region's yellowfin tuna stock, which has been overfished since 2015. The International Pole and Line Foundation (IPNLF) and Blue Marine Foundation expressed disappointment with the lack of new measures to address the issue. The EU's inflexibility was highlighted as a barrier to improved management of industrial fisheries. Evidence of non-compliance with IOTC Resolution 19/02 on drifting fish aggregating devices (dFADs) was submitted, and legal action against the European Commission is being supported. The organizations are pushing for the implementation of Resolution 23/02 to manage dFADs effectively.
