Since 2020, U.S. farmers have seen an increase in the average retail price of fresh strawberries, reaching $3.80 per pound in 2023, up from $3.79 in 2022. Despite this, marketing costs have decreased. The Economic Research Service of the USDA calculated that companies paid about 53% of the retail price to farmers in 2023, meaning farmers received just over half of what consumers paid. This calculation also factored in the estimated 8% loss due to spoilage and trimming.
