There has been a 9% increase in potato and potato product imports in the United States for the current marketing year, according to Potatoes USA. This surge is attributed to high domestic demand and limited supply. The imports have seen significant growth in chips and dehydrated potatoes, with increases of 18% and 15% respectively. Additionally, there has been a rise in imports of frozen and fresh potatoes by 9% and 5% respectively, and seed potatoes by 14%. Canada remains the leading supplier of frozen potatoes with an 86% market share, while the European Union, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, France, and Italy, accounts for 11% of the supply, marking a rise in exports from these countries.
