The first quarter of this year saw a significant decrease in the import of Dutch fruit and vegetables into Germany, with a 20% drop compared to the same period last year and a third less compared to Q1 of 2021. This decline was especially evident in large glass products, with a third less Dutch tomatoes and cucumbers imported. However, the import of Dutch pears experienced growth. The total German import of fruit and vegetables also shrank by 10%. Additionally, the average price of German imports, including from the Netherlands, saw a sharp increase of 15% in Q1.
