Indonesian Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani Indrawati, recently appealed for support for Indonesian chocolate while in Frankfurt, Germany. She highlighted Indonesia's status as a significant cocoa bean exporter, with exports valued at $1 billion in 2021-2022 and the majority of production coming from Sulawesi. Indrawati is advocating for the development of advanced Indonesian chocolate to dominate the global market. The Ministry of Industry is also working on downstream development, product diversification, and creating high-flavor cocoa based on geographical indications, with a focus on artisan chocolate. This has the potential to increase its market share from the current 2% to 10% in Indonesia, which could enhance the welfare of cocoa farmers and the sustainability of cocoa in the country.
