As of August 26, 43 out of 75 sugar factories in the Eurasian Economic Union countries were processing sugar beets, including 42 in Russia and one in Belarus, reported the Eurasian Sugar Association. Since the beginning of the season, 2.85 million tons of sugar beets have been processed, producing 360,000 tons of sugar, as well as 106,000 tons of dried granulated pulp and 100,000 tons of molasses. By this date last year, only 34 sugar factories in Russia were processing sugar beets, producing 304.5 thousand tons of sugar. This year, in almost all regions, the harvesting and processing of sugar beets began several days earlier than last year.
