A study by the Sugarcane Technology Center (CTC) in Brazil has found that adopting new sugarcane varieties can boost agricultural yields by up to 20% and add 2 tons of sugar per hectare. The research, based on data from over 175 mills, shows that varieties launched after 2000 outperform those from the 1980s, with elite varieties generating 36.6% more total recoverable sugars per hectare. In terms of financial impact, switching to a modern variety can increase gross profit by R$3 million over five years. The study also emphasizes the importance of managing new varieties properly and highlights the benefits of Bt varieties, which are resistant to the sugarcane borer.
