SugaROx secures £1 million in funding from Merion and others, plans UK launch of trehalosa-6-fosfato biostimulant by 2027

Biostimulants are among the fastest-growing areas of crop inputs, with a projected compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 11%. Previously, Innovate UK, the UK's National Innovation Agency, had allocated £2.4 million for the expansion of SugaROx's first active ingredient, trehalose-6-phosphate (T6P), production. SugaROx's T6P biostimulant enhances crop yield and resilience by inhibiting SnRK1, an enzyme that indicates energy scarcity in plants. Safety tests completed in early 2024 confirmed the favorable pre-registration prospects of its unique T6P and prompted potential market partners to request samples for field trials. SugaROx plans to launch its T6P wheat biostimulant in the UK market in 2027 and in the EU market in 2028. This year, the company has initiated trials on soybeans and corn, with plans to subsequently enter the US and Brazilian markets.
