The Ministry of Agriculture of Kazakhstan has implemented measures to stimulate the development of the oilseed industry and stabilize the domestic market. In September 2021, restrictions were placed on the export of sunflower seeds and oil, leading to a 10.2% increase in refined sunflower oil production by the end of 2021 and the stabilization of retail prices. Exports of sunflower oil have increased fourfold in the first half of 2022, with 60% of the exports going to Uzbekistan. To further support the industry, state subsidies are provided for the delivery of oilseeds for processing and the purchase of seeds, fertilizers, and pesticides, resulting in an increase in the cultivation area for sunflower seeds by 200 thousand hectares last year, with plans to increase sowing by an additional 20.7 thousand hectares this year.
