Farmers in Edirne, Turkey, have begun planting sunflowers following recent rainfall, which has improved soil conditions and eased farmers' concerns over insufficient winter precipitation. Despite the risks of downy mildew, the warmer weather is expected to reduce this risk. The planting season, which usually lasts until around April 15-20, has seen about 15 millimeters of precipitation, necessary for the sunflower seeds to emerge. Farmers are hopeful for more rain in April and May to ensure adequate soil moisture for the sunflower crop.
