The food sector in Indonesia is experiencing positive developments during the COVID-19 pandemic, despite price fluctuations, says Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto. The government is focusing on policies to ensure food availability, affordability, and price stability, particularly ahead of fasting and Eid. The Minister of Trade has assured that inflation is under control during this period, although prices of some commodities like poultry products can fluctuate. There is enough poultry meat and eggs in the country, but concerns have been raised about the welfare of farmers. The supply of corn for feed and poultry meat is lower in 2021 due to high prices, and there are calls for a national corn buffer stock and import policy. The country has sufficient boneless meat for its processing industry, but not mechanically deboned meat.
