A large variety of lychees, affectionately named "super giant" or "egg lychee," is making waves in the Vietnamese market due to its unique size and high price point. As large as chicken eggs or even children's fists, these lychees are sold for 200-300 thousand VND per kilogram, a price eight to ten times higher than regular lychees. Despite the high cost, demand for the egg lychee, also known as Mr. Diem's lychee, remains strong, with customers buying it for both consumption and gifting purposes. Originating from Ba Dong village in Hung Yen province, the egg lychee tree, known as the tot lychee tree, is renowned for its sweet taste, thick pulp, and lack of pests. The local community has started to cultivate more of this precious variety, recognizing its economic potential and the opportunity to preserve a valuable cultural heritage.
