Suzano/Miranda: North American consumer will have to deal with extra cost of higher tariff

By Caroline Aragaki São Paulo, 07/15/2025 - Suzano's director for the Americas, Guilherme Melhado Miranda, recently stated that if the 50% tariff on Brazilian products by the United States becomes a reality, the commodities industry has no margin to subsidize the products, and thus, North American consumers will have to deal with the extra cost. In this sense, the trend is for cellulose prices to rise, due to less supply and fewer competitors, Miranda evaluates, emphasizing that inflation related to the tariff policy will come at some point if the 50% rates are effectively implemented. Nevertheless, the Suzano director emphasizes that the company will find ways to sell products to other markets, stressing that "the best scenario, obviously, is still to maintain the relationship we have had for years with North America".
