Sweet and long-shelf-life – new blackberry variety introduced in Brazil

The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa) has introduced a new blackberry variety aimed at the local fresh market. The variety is called BRS Terena, a blackberry that combines high yield, high sweetness, lower acidity and a long shelf life after harvest, EastFruit reports. Embrapa claims that BRS Terena is sweeter than Tupy, the most common blackberry variety in Brazil. Production and yield of BRS Terena blackberries With an average yield of 1.2 kg per plant, it can reach peak yields of up to 1.8 kg. According to the study, the blackberry has a potential net profit of about R$30,000 per hectare.
