Tajikistan's grape exports are facing a decline due to changing consumer preferences in the international market. The country's grape varieties, which are heavy and seeded, no longer meet the demand for grapes with large berries, without seeds, and in small clusters. Additionally, Tajikistan's grape yield per hectare is lower than that of its regional competitors, including Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Iran. The country has focused on growing local grape varieties, but none of these are currently suitable for export, except for raisins. Experts recommend that Tajikistan consider these factors and update its vineyards with new varieties to remain competitive in the market.
