Despite an increase in domestic production of various food products in 2023, Tajikistan saw a rise in imports of wheat, flour, rice, potatoes, and fruits. The country imported over 975 thousand tons of wheat, 68 thousand tons of flour, and 33 thousand tons of rice, even with a record fruit harvest of 665 thousand tons and potato harvest of over 1.1 million tons. The American Rating Agency Standard & Poor’s (S&P) noted Tajikistan's high dependency on food imports, which reached nearly 3.5% of the country’s GDP, one of the highest globally.
