Tanzania has experienced a 14% increase in cashew nut production in the past two years, reaching 240,158.752 tonnes in the 2021/2022 season. This growth is attributed to efforts by the government and stakeholders, with the number of cashew-growing regions expanding from five to 17. The majority of the production (90%) is exported to India and Vietnam, while the remainder is sold globally and locally. However, the domestic market for cashew products is underdeveloped as Tanzanians do not have a strong culture of consuming cashews. To combat this, initiatives are in place to enhance domestic consumption and prevent the replacement of indigenous cashew nut seeds with foreign varieties.
