In 2019, the Maswa District Council in Tanzania established an Orange Fleshy Sweet Potato Packing Station (OFSP) in the Simiyu Region, supported by a US$100,000 seed capital from the Local Finance Initiative (LFI) of the UNCDF. The funding was used for connecting the plant to the national grid, purchasing high-capacity solar drying machines, and working capital. The project aims to combat community malnutrition by promoting the sale of orange-fleshed sweet potatoes, which are rich in vitamin A, and to provide growers with financial support.
