The European Union has lifted its ban on the import of sopropo from Tanzania, following the country's successful demonstration of freedom from the quarantine disease, Thrips palmi, and the army caterpillar, Spodoptera frugiperda. This decision is expected to boost the income of Tanzanian growers. The Tanzania Horticulture Association and the UNDP-funded Horticulture Transformation for Inclusive Growth project had collaborated with the Tanzania Plant Health and Pesticides Authority in conducting pest control in sopropo cultivation areas to meet the EU's requirements.
