Zhongning County in Ningxia, China, is currently in the middle of its medlar harvest season, marking the start of the first stubble of medlar. Located near the Yellow River, the region is known for its production of wolfberries, which are celebrated for their quality and nutritional value. The industry has seen significant growth and innovation, with over 240 companies now involved in the processing of the fruit. Products range from traditional dried fruit to health and skin care items, with advanced preservation technologies extending the shelf life. Despite this, online sales channels for these products need to be expanded, indicating a potential area for growth. As of 2020, the region's wolfberry cultivation covered 350,000 mu, yielding 260,000 tons of fresh fruit and generating a comprehensive output value of 21 billion yuan. The county plans to further boost the industry through increased research and development, specialization, branding, and international collaboration, aiming to enhance the global competitiveness of Zhongning wolfberry.
