On March 15, 2024, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) announced the introduction of the Food Safety and Security Bill (FSSB), a comprehensive legislative framework aimed at consolidating eight existing food-related bills and introducing new regulatory measures to enhance food safety and security in Singapore. The FSSB will address six major areas, including specific foods and pre-market approval, non-packaged drinking water, food supply resilience, and regulations on agricultural inputs and food import/export. The first public consultation focuses on 'Specific Foods and Pre-market Approval', outlining requirements for new, genetically modified, and novel foods, and the process for obtaining pre-market approval. Domestic food companies are encouraged to engage with the draft regulations, provide feedback, and prepare for compliance to ensure uninterrupted sales in the Singapore market. The consultation period ends on May 14, 2024.
