The article highlights the impact of the crisis on the availability of soybeans, a crucial raw material, leading to the use of low-quality soybeans in the production of tofu and tempeh. The high prices of soybeans, due in part to the war between Russia and Ukraine, have forced industries to cut costs. Despite the high demand, Indonesia's domestic production is insufficient, accounting for only 14% of the total demand, necessitating heavy imports. Darori Wonodipuro, a member of Commission IV DPR RI, has called on the government to boost local soybean production through post-harvest subsidies and regulation of soybean imports.
