The Director of the Department of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Commerce in Thailand, Arada, stated in an interview with the media that from January to May 2025, Thailand's cassava exports had reached 4.06 million tons, a significant increase of 37.16% year-on-year, demonstrating a strong development momentum.

According to the plan, the annual export target for Thailand's cassava in 2025 is 7.5 million tons. If this target is successfully achieved, it will mark the second consecutive year that Thailand ranks first in global cassava exports.

Arada pointed out that this achievement not only reflects the global competitiveness of Thailand's cassava industry but also indicates the high level of recognition and trust in Thai products by the international market.

To achieve the above target, the Thai government is actively assisting enterprises in understanding the dynamics of emerging markets and encouraging exporters to expand into diversified markets.

Although China remains the largest export destination, the import demand from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Middle Eastern countries is also gradually increasing.

Arada called on export enterprises to strengthen their product diversification strategy, particularly seeking new growth points in high-value-added areas such as animal feed.

She pointed out that expanding into emerging markets and extending the cassava industry chain will be key strategies to stabilize export volumes and enhance international pricing power.

Driven by sustained global demand growth, despite a 30% drop in international cassava prices since the beginning of this year, domestic cassava prices in Thailand have risen against the trend to 2 Thai Baht per kilogram, doubling the price from the beginning of the year, significantly boosting farmers' income.

To further expand export potential, Thailand hosted the 7th World Tapioca Conference 2025 in Bangkok at Siam Paragon from July 29 to 30.

The conference attracted global buyers and industry experts, and it is expected to result in orders worth at least 300 million Thai Baht, injecting new momentum into cassava exports.

The Thai government stated that with the deepening of export strategies and the enhancement of international influence, Thailand will play a more important role in the global cassava supply chain and will continue to promote the value addition of agricultural products and sustainable agricultural development.
