Thailand has risen to 3rd place in the global poultry industry in 2023, up from 4th in 2022, due to the government's export promotion measures and the extension of soybean meal import under a World Trade Organisation (WTO) deal, according to Chaweewan Kampa, president of the Poultry Promotion Association of Thailand. Despite this progress, the country faces challenges due to higher production costs compared to competitors like Brazil and the US. Kampa has called on the government to consider expanding the term under the WTO deal, particularly the import quota limit, to help reduce costs for chicken farmers and enhance Thailand's competitiveness in the global market.
