Ecuador has started exporting chicken meat for the first time, shipping 28 tons to the Bahamas on May 2. The San Isidro (Avisid) poultry company was responsible for the export, complying with the Bahamas' phytosanitary and certification requirements. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) and the Phytosanitary Regulation and Control Agency (Agrocalidad) oversaw the process. Patricio Almeida, executive director of Agrocalidad, sees the Bahamas market as attractive due to its tourism volume and believes that Ecuador has the capacity to meet demand and expand to other markets, including South America and Europe. Ecuador produces around 260 million birds for meat each year, fulfilling both local and potential export demands.
