Igor Shkurko, a prominent figure in the Ukrainian agricultural sector and head of PrJSC NGO "Chernihivelitkartoplya," has expressed concerns over a significant decline in potato production within the country. He attributes this drop to the ongoing war, a shortage of labor, and the transition to larger farms. Currently, Ukraine's potato production is estimated to be around 3 million tons, a far cry from the normal 5-6 million tons. This reduction is largely due to a decrease in private farm production and the absence of large-scale potato farmers. Shkurko also points out that Ukraine's leading position in global potato production, with a reported 22 million tons, may be causing quarantine restrictions in the world market, making it more difficult for Ukraine to export its potatoes.
