The bean campaign in León, Spain, has commenced, with the province being the country's main producer, accounting for over 60% of the national supply. Prices are expected to rise due to empty warehouses from the previous campaign and a scarce Argentine harvest, which has seen losses of around 30% due to drought. The Legume Chamber of the Argentine Republic (CLERA) reports that bean sizes are small and yields are below average, leading to a shortage of beans for sale in markets. As a result, prices in Spain have surged to approximately $1.40 - $1.50 per kg, including cost and cargo, with the buyer also bearing additional expenses such as insurance, unloading, storage, and transport. Spain consumes around 70,000 tons of beans annually, with over half being imported, mostly from Argentina.
