The head of the Arab Beekeepers' Union, Fathi Behairy, reported that Egypt's honey exports, including beehives, reached around $300 million in 2023, with similar figures in 2022. The exports consist of about 12,000 tons of honey, with 20% being exported and the rest for the local market. The main importers of Egyptian honey are Lebanon, Jordan, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia. The industry is facing high operating costs and wages, but efforts are being made to maintain high export volumes. Plans are underway to expand the European market for Egyptian honey. The Ministry of Agriculture is also supporting the sector by offering honey-related products to companies and trade names at exhibitions.
