(Hongseong=Yonhap News) Reporter Jeong Yun-deok = The Chungnam Agricultural Research and Extension Service announced on the 19th that they have newly developed four types of organic agricultural materials that can prevent black spot disease, which frequently occurs during the cultivation of cabbage.
Black spot disease is a fungal disease that causes black spots on leaves, gradually leading to plant death, and currently, there are only 11 registered control agents.
The Agricultural Research and Extension Service conducted research on organic agricultural materials that can environmentally friendly inhibit black spot disease and confirmed the effects of four types of materials in inhibiting the germination of pathogen spores: Plant Extract Material 1 (25% cinnamon oil + 5% extracts of Chinese cinnamon tree, mulberry tree, and Gleditsia triacanthos + 10% paraffin oil), Plant Extract Material 2 (40% soapnut extract + 20% grapefruit seed extract), Plant Oil 1 (28% cinnamon oil + 22% mustard oil + 7% paraffin oil), and Plant Oil 2 (18% cinnamon oil + 3% paraffin oil).
Plant Extract Material 1 also showed effects in inhibiting mycelial growth in all three types of black spot disease pathogens.
Kim Byeong-yeon, head of the Crop Protection Team, said, "Black spot disease in cabbage spreads rapidly in hot and humid environments," and "We expect that organic agricultural materials that directly inhibit the pathogen will be of great help to environmentally friendly farms."
