The National Agricultural Council (CNA) is making proposals to the Mexican government to continue boosting the country's agricultural production, which has seen a 50% growth over the past eight years, making it the only sector to grow above the economy. CNA vice president Juan Cortina Gallardo met with Jalisco union members to discuss labor issues, subcontración, water, transgenic corn, and glyphosate. The CNA, which represents 1.5 million agricultural producers, is also advocating for the sector's interests in trade agreements and negotiations, such as the treaty with the United States, which could diversify State products. The current president of the ANC, Bosco de la Vega, has been credited with institutionalizing the Council and defending the Mexican countryside in free trade agreement negotiations.
