The coffee industry in Mexico expects to grow up to 5% in 2023

Mexico City, Sep 6 (EFE).- The coffee industry in Mexico expects to grow 5% in 2023 after consumption increased by 37% over the last two years, as revealed this Wednesday by data from Expo Café 2023, the main sector meeting. The coffee sector in the country, made up of more than 500,000 producers and more than 75,500 coffee shops, reported that coffee consumption by Mexicans increased from 230,000 tons in 2020 to 311,000 tons in 2022. Likewise, the organizers of the coffee industry business event highlighted the 7% increase during the covid-19 pandemic, when 75,500 coffee shops were reached, which meant the addition of 5,000 new businesses to the Mexican market. A PROMISING BUSINESS According to the sector's perspective, there could be up to 80,000 coffee shops by the end of 2023, with a growth of between 5% and 7% in the number of new units, capable of employing more than 377,000 Mexicans, with an average of five people per cafeteria.
