Turkey has seen a 32% increase in vegetable oil exports in the first five months of 2021 compared to the same period in 2020, reaching $503.8 million despite a 9% decrease in quantity. The country exported 368,124 tons of vegetable oil to 140 countries, with Iraq, Syria, and Libya being the main importers. The Aegean Cereals, Pulses, Oilseeds and Products Exporters' Association expects exports to hit $1.25 billion by year-end. The pandemic has led to a surge in demand for safety stock of oilseeds, cereals, and food products, resulting in price fluctuations which are predicted to continue until 2022. Rıza Seyyar, from the Audit Board of the same association, emphasized the need to increase production for economic reasons and to achieve self-sufficiency in oilseeds and their derivatives.
