The distribution of the 6,719 tonnes of western horse mackerel quota allocated to Spain for 2025 has been published.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food published this Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE) the resolution distributing the western horse mackerel stock quota assigned to Spain, which stands at 6,719 tons, out of a Total Allowable Catch (TAC) of 57,986 tons allocated to the EU fleet for the 2025 season. With these figures, the Spanish fleet recovers allocation levels not seen since 2022, representing significant relief compared to previous years. Furthermore, directed fishing is allowed again, significantly expanding the sector's options for exploiting this fish stock and advancing the development of new fisheries. The beneficiaries of this quota are the Cantabrian and northwest fishing grounds fleets of bottom trawlers, purse seines, and other fishing gear, which have been demanding a significant amount of horse mackerel quota in recent years.
