The winds that affected the cultivation of Canary Islands Bananas at the end of 2024 have resulted in a production drop of around 12% and, consequently, a rise in prices that experts say will persist throughout the campaign. With two months left until the end, the peak in prices was especially noticeable during the summer, where a 220% increase in prices on the shelves was recorded, according to data from the sector itself. During the first half of the year, the production of Canary Islands Bananas fell by about 20 million kilos compared to the initial campaign, although producers expect this figure to rise to 40 million once the year is over, as stated by Sergio Cáceres, the manager of the Association of Canary Islands Banana Producers (Asprocan), to Efeagro.
